Torn About Polygamist Ranch Case
2008 June 2

Thanks to my work schedule forcing me to get up at a decent hour of the morning (I LOVE my sleep) I have actually been able to keep up with the news and current events. I really do enjoy being “in the know” about anything news-related.
The continual following of the Polygamist ranch has me scratching my head. On one hand I’m totally disgusted by cult beliefs and ideals. On the other hand, I do think there should be a way for children to be in the care of their own parent while an investigation is happening. It’s a hard situation for me to pick a side on.
What do you think?

I agree with you…I’m completely torn on this one. While I want those little girls to learn that there is a better way to do marriage, and more importantly, to learn the Truth of the Gospel…I also know how important it is for a child to be in the care of parents who love them. I don’t doubt the love of these mothers, but still can’t seem to wrap my head around the idea that the way these kids are being raised is truly what’s best…
It’s really heart breaking. I have wrestled with this one for a couple months now. Not sure what the right answer is.
Just found your blog and love it. Look forward to reading more.
The kids were in a bad place, but the government did overstep its bounds since few of the hundreds seized were in imminent danger. From what I hear the cult has now agreed to stop underage marriages. Which is kind of odd since these marriages weren’t legal in most cases due to the whole one man one wife view of marriage in this nation.
