Mauled by the Masses

Blogs are a funny thing. I average about 50 visits to my site each day but in the four years that I’ve been blogging, there have been days now and then when my hits spike skyhigh and I have to track down what in the world is going on. This morning I check my blog and i’ve got several new angry comments and 500 hits on my September 2007 “Reasons Why I Hate the Whole Concept of Tipping”. Apparently someone linked to it on another person’s blog and I was mauled by the masses! Haha, it’s amazing to me how vocal people are on the Internet.
Bahaha wow way to tick people off. I went and read the comments… quite entertaining. Just for the record, I agree with whoever said tipping was fun. I like knowing that when I leave, my waitress/er is like “Wow that was a nice group!”. So if we go out to eat anytime soon, I’ll cover the tip and you can buy me dessert or something to pay me back lol. That way, I’m happy b/c I got to tip and you’ll be happy b/c you didn’t have to, but it will still be fair!
Hey Crystal, thanks for visiting! I check your blog at least once a week now. I do think that tipping to be a pleasant guest can be fun and don’t mind it so much at a restaurant usually. What infuriates me and was the main instigator of the blog is the tip jars in so many random businesses these days. Places like Subway, the coffee shop and the mechanic??? And even more maddening are the begger-esque messages on these tip jars that are shameless guilt trips. I understand tipping for a job very well done and for those who go above and beyond, but the principle has been stretched way too far to the extent that it’s just greedy and expected when it shouldn’t be. Oh no, here I go again! I’m going to get more angry comments, haha!
Haha. Well I agree with you on that point. I mean, if it’s for the Children’s Miracle Network or such, sure I can spare a buck. But tip full-salary employees just for the heck of it? No thanks.

I find it bizarre too! All of a sudden someone will pull up a post from some archive and I find myself saying–”Hey…did i write that? Dang, that was good!” Then the next thing ya know my stats are going ballistic! WOO-HOO!
