Thoughts in No Particular Order

One of those “random thought” posts since A) I don’t have time to elaborate on any one topic and B) I can think of a whole list of thoughts popping into my head lately I want to post about

I’ll number them for easy reference for you commentors:

1. Our small-town, rural area has once again made headlines involving danger on a college campus. This time, it’s even in my very own county. Ferrum College went on lockdown today. It created quite a buzz - in the media and in my workplace and fortunately that’s all it has amounted to. Apparently a housekeeper reported a guy with a gun in one of the residence halls.

2. Something that has always annoyed me but is REALLY annoying me now that I simply DO NOT have time for it - people who frequently throw ideas (related to anything- work, ministry, social…) at me that involve me doing extra planning or effort and do not take on any of the burden themselves. I don’t mind the occassional suggestion, in fact, I invite suggestion, but when it’s pretty much on a weekly basis, I start to lose it.

3. I am ever so slowly reading through “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World” by Joanna Weaver. It is excellent. Now #2 and #3 are hypocritical.

4. Phil and I renewed our YMCA memberships and I am now going early, early in the mornings before work. It’s been a relief to get my run in first thing and I have already chit-chatted with a couple ladies who are morning regulars like me.

5. My latest challenge is evangelism in the workplace. Not my specialty.

6. Phil and I are attending a Family Life Marriage Conference this weekend. I am SUPER EXCITED!!!! Especially since we were so generously given free hotel stays for it. SWEET!!

7. I was supposed to travel to Boston last weekend with the in-law women but we got stranded in West Virginia and had to turn around the next day due to the big winter storm that took over the east. Boo.

Alive = the Real Thing

Here I am on a Saturday, the only day I have any control over my schedule, and I’m finally putting up a post. A few weeks ago it was all I could do not to post every five minutes and now it’s all I can do to post every week.

I’m still getting used to adding a 40-hour/week job to the other committments I’d made prior but each week it gets a little better. The Saturday morning ladies’ brunch I started just before the holidays is still going and has been useful for touching base with women who can’t make it to our Alive meetings on Wed. nights. That’s why I planned it and that’s the role it’s fulfilling. I spent time with a girl this morning who I have come to really appreciate and depend on. She found our little group at the end of the summer and has been a real blessing. It’s so wonderful when a new person “sticks” and doesn’t just float in and out a few times and then disappears.

I LOVE chocolate-covered strawberries!!

What a weekend. I am filled to the brim. Philip and I traveled to Norfolk for a friend’s wedding. Andrea and Rob, the happy couple, were both wed in the Chrysler Museum of Art on Saturday evening. What a gorgeous wedding and a tremendous amount of fun too! It was a reunion for me since at least half of the guests in attendance were good friends from my alma mater. I was thrilled that one of my favorite people in the world, Krista, was there with her husband. They are both Campus Crusade ministers in Venezuela and aren’t typically in the states but the wedding happened to fall on a period of time when they were visiting so they were able to come! Seeing old friends and having an opportunity to catch up is like refueling your emotional engine. Thank you, Lord!
